J.P. Gupta served in the Gujarat districts of Junagarh, Amreli, Kachchh, and the Dangs as District Development Officer and Collector. Prior to that he has been working with the United Nations Development Programme for Earthquake Rehabilitation.
In 1996 he campaigned for the introduction of Value Added Tax regulations in Gujarat as Special Commissioner of Commercial Taxes.
He is also board member of cooperations such as AMUL.
J.P. Gupta won the National Rural Talent Search Scholarship and other state level Scholarships, has been selected member in a number of prestigious organizations - including BARC, HAL, and NTPC, and was has been appointed to the elite Indian Administrative Services in 1991.
